n 1992 just out of high school Amanda Bossard started her education in marine biology atAlaska Pacific University, Anchorage in Alaska. Bossard started her commercial fishing career in 1999, when she was hired on board the ship F/V Sunset. The 65' schooner, which was transformed into the role of a salmon tender is owned by Murat Aritan. Aritan has been involved in commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard has been is married to Aritan and they have joined together to assert their claim to the market. Both are advocates of conservation as well as profiting from sustainable resources within the seafood industry. In 2007, now a mother of two children Bella age three and Andre 1 Bossard and then relocating back to live in Philadelphia established a direct market wholesale seafood distributor called Otolith. Otolith's name is an affectionate reference to Bossard's extensive understanding of the biology of fish and her husband's many connections in the industry of seafood. They are often apart for five months each time they work towards sustainable and financial goals that show their determination and independence wherever they live. Bossard along with their son Andre and daughter Isabella will return to Southeast Alaska every summer as deckhands during the harvest of wild salmon. For two months, Bossard and Isabella will use hooks and lines to fish for their desired salmon. Aritan will then sell their fish locally to processors.
